Research Profile

Umme Jaman Antu is a postgraduate student of Agricultural Economics at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh-2202, Bangladesh. Her research focuses on the economics of innovative technologies in agriculture. Driven by a strong passion for research and innovation, she is committed to generating rigorous scientific evidence to guide policies with evidence-based suggestions. Her Master of Science research project concentrated on "Smallholder Crop Robots: A New Economic Paradigm", where smallholder grain-oilseed farms appropriate machinery choice economics has been guided to support the action plan of the national agricultural mechanization policy of Bangladesh. This research was conducted under the Hub for Smallholders Agri-Tech Economics (HSATE) at the Department of Agricultural Economics of BAU. She worked at HSATE as a Research Assistant. Subsequently, in her role as a Research Associate at HSATE, she was involved in digitized cost and return guide development for smallholder grain-oilseed farms under different mechanized management and machinery markets. Both research projects were funded by the International Growth Centre (IGC), which was directed by The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Oxford.

Her current research work as a Research Associate focuses on the economics of solar irrigation energy for off-grid alternatives under the project entitled: "SMART-SIP+: Innovative Approaches to Downstream Energy Utilization from Solar Irrigation Pumps in Bangladesh". This research is funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Ayrton Challenge Programme in collaboration with Bangladesh Agricultural University and Birmingham City University in the UK, with research partners Bright Green Energy Foundation, Water & Sanitation for the Urban Populations (WSUP), and Thingitude. For her research work, she has been awarded the National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship through the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh.
